Jasper began singing at the age of seven as a boy alto in the Sacramentskoor Breda. It was here that his love for early music first took shape, through the performance of works by the great masters that accompanied the liturgy of the Mass. The weekly interplay of liturgy, text and music formed the foundation of his later musical fascination. With the Sacramentskoor, he took part in a wide range of productions, including performances of Bach’s St Matthew Passion, symphonies by Mahler, and other large-scale works. Alongside his choral activities, he studied piano and organ. After his voice changed, he continued his vocal training as a tenor with Lucie Hillen.
Music remained central throughout his studies in healthcare. During this time, he joined the Cappella Nicolai of the St Nicholas Cathedral in Amsterdam, where he sang for many years under the direction and mentorship of Michael Hedley. Jasper remains affiliated with the professional consort there and also serves as a regular organ registrar. In this period, he further deepened his engagement with the Baroque repertoire and developed as a soloist, performing in numerous Bach cantatas and passions. Among other engagements, he sang soloist and Evangelist roles in four Bach series with the Utrecht Student Choir and Orchestra.
Jasper subsequently chose to pursue a dedicated degree in Early Music Vocal Studies at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where he studied with Xenia Meijer and graduated cum laude. He took part in masterclasses and coaching sessions with, among others, Charlotte Margiono, Margreet Honig, Nico van der Meel and Ed Spanjaard, and received an intensive multi-day coaching from Emma Kirkby. He continues to be coached by Xenia Meijer. For three seasons, Jasper was active as a Young Bach Fellow with the Netherlands Bach Society, participating in its regular concert programme.
As a soloist and ensemble singer, Jasper is involved in a wide range of projects in the Netherlands and abroad. His repertoire focuses primarily on seventeenth- and eighteenth-century music and includes roles in Bach’s passions, oratorios and cantatas, oratorios by Haydn, and Handel’s Messiah. In recent years, he has increasingly focused on the late Romantic English repertoire, in which textual expression and tonal colour—much as in early music—play a central role. Jasper regularly performs with professional ensembles such as Vox Luminis, the Netherlands Bach Society, the Netherlands Radio Choir, the Netherlands Chamber Choir, Amsterdam Baroque Choir, Luthers Bach Ensemble and Camerata Trajectina.
